Fan favorite, Kirk Talley was recently honored by the Christian Music Hall of Fame and Museum with the a nomination for the 2009 Visionary Award for Southern Gospel Male Vocalist of the Year. Talley was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame last year at their first induction ceremony. This year the induction ceremony will be held November 14 in Dallas, TX, and the Visionary Awards will be presented at that time.

Kirk Talley has been blessing audiences with his innovative style of singing for more than 30 years. He not only is a multi-award winning soloist, but he has also won many awards for songs he has written. He started his career with the Hopper Brothers and Connie while still in high school, and he later joined the highly acclaimed Cathedral Quartet. While with the Cathedrals he penned some of his best known songs — Step Into the Water and Wedding Music — both of which charted as #1 for several months. In 1982 Kirk and his brother Roger formed the group The Talleys along with Roger’s wife Debra. This group quickly became one of Gospel music’s most popular groups ever. While with the Talleys Kirk continued writing award winning songs and received the Dove Award and a Grammy nomination for He Is Here.

Roger and Debra Talley decided to come off the road to raise their daughter in 1993. This move launched Kirk’s highly successful solo career. Since beginning his solo career Talley has released 16 projects with many top charting songs such as Joy On the Other Side of Jordon, If He Hung the Moon and of course Serenaded By Angels.

In 2003 Talley’s career took a personal jolt from which he is still recovering. 2004 was spent in counseling and quiet meditation. At the end of that year, Kirk began taking some invitations to sing and share his testimony. In May of 2005, Kirk recorded a live CD/DVD containing his complete testimony. That testimony opened many doors of ministry for him. He continues to walk through the doors that are opened for him, sharing songs that he has written and his testimony of Grace and Mercy that God has shown him.

Tangible accolades such as various Fan Awards, Dove Award, and Grammy Nominations have distinguished Kirk Talley as one of the great talents in Gospel music. However, his mission has always been to present the Gospel and magnify the Lord — not to gain worldly fame. This focus is what has captivated audiences around the world and what keeps Kirk writing and singing his songs and as one of his recent songs says to “Keep Puttin’One Foot in Front of the Other, Doin’ What God Says Do.”
