LOVE FOOD & MUSIC Festival | Saturday October 1st
Hungerstock will benefit the Food Bank of South Jersey whose mission is to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger by providing food to needy people, teaching them to eat nutritiously, and helping them to find sustainable ways to improve their lives. Hungerstock is a concert featuring entertainment on two stages throughout the day, craft vendors on the concourse and plenty of refreshments. This event will wiliver its own unique, universal appeal in the spirit of the original 1969 Woodstock festival.

Bio:
Patty Smyth, both with her hit band Scandal and as a solo artist, has always been, at heart, a rock and roll chick, and that’s no truer today for the mother of six, now back on the road and raring to play for fans new and old. If Smyth did nothing but marry New York punk poet Richard Hell (with whom she had her oldest daughter Ruby), then noted tennis punk and commentator John McEnroe (who had three kids of his own and then two more with Patty), that would be amazing enough, but she’s also earned both Oscar and Grammy nominations, recorded a series of hit singles and albums and enjoyed a successful reunion on VH1’s Bands Reunited series. As for her current revival, Patty suggests: "I don’t play to a pre-recorded track or have 15 dancers on-stage. There are no smoke and mirrors. We feel that people are yearning for music that’s real. It’s just these four guys and I, out there seriously kicking some ass and having fun. We’re so tight, if I fell down a flight of stairs, they would follow me and we’d all land on our feet. I don’t have to think of anything else when I’m performing. For that hour, I can step out of my life. It’s like flying. I feel like I’m at the top of my game, and totally in my element. It’s an unbelievable joy."

Singer/songwriter/actor, DAVID HERNANDEZ, gained national attention with his powerful voice and affable personality as an American Idol 2008 Finalist. He began singing at age six, starring in musicals and performing with various theatre companies throughout Arizona. When he reached the young age of fifteen, he began writing his original music and recording his arrangements. A Phoenix native, Hernandez recently gave up his apartment in Arizona and moved to Hollywood where he is writing new songs, working in the recording studio producing his newest music, and pursuing his passion for acting.

Bio:
Matthew Haze is a rising young Talent in the music world, having recently worked with Lady Gaga, Solange Knowles, Katherine McPhee, Justin Guarini, and many others. After winning numerous awards in music competitions, Matthew attended The University of Southern California where he studied under Jazz great, Joe Diorio. Since graduation in 2005 his endeavors as a song writer, bandleader, educator, and versatility as a sideman have gained exceptional notoriety. In 2008 Matthew began touring with Solange Knowles, the sister of Beyonce Knowles. In support of Solange he has made numerous television appearances including the Late Show with David letterman, jimmy Kimmel Live, Tyra Banks, The Today Show, The Early Show, The View, MTV’s TRL, CBS Fashion Rocks, the World Music Awards, Dick Clark New Years Eve arty, The Jules Holland Show, and more. He appeared in three of Solange’s music video’s including the singles "Sandcastle Disco" and "I Decided" (2008 Geffen/Interscope) which reached #1 on the R& B Billboard Charts. In October of 2008 Solange and the Hadley Street Dreams joined Alicia Keys in support of her European tour, and in the Spring of 09 joined Estelle in a U.S. tour. Matt spent the summer of 2011 touring the Us with Matthew Morrison (Glee), The New Kids on the Block and The Backstreet boys.

A common thread among most successful Musical artists is that the inspiration to become great arrived at a young age, and the early history of rhythm and blues guitarist Demitris Edwards Brown was no different. Growing up in Detroit, MI, Brown, the youngest of three children, was exposed to the smooth sounds of jazz as he listened to the legendary recordings of his father’s favorite artists; Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus, Les McCann, Cannonball Adderly, King Pleasure and Charles Christian. When jazz albums weren’t spinning under the family’s turn-table needle, the popular tunes from Motown would resonate from the speakers as Brown’s mother would lay down music from The Four Tops, The Miracles, The Jackson 5 and James Brown. Thus, Brown’s overall musical aptitude would broaden to unlimited heights. A defining moment in Brown’s musical career occurred as early as elementary school when a classmate demonstrated an ability to play back a song heard on the radio with his guitar. Brown, fascinated and inspired, would eventually receive his first guitar as a Christmas present from his grandmother, and immediately took lessons, hoping to become the next B.B. King. By the time Brown was in high school, he was a polished artist, and formed the group Foreplay. After earning a solid reputation while playing at venues in Detroit, Foreplay drew the attention of producer Quincy Jones, who offered the group a record deal, but Brown declined because of a professional difference of opinion of how the group’s image would be projected by the public.

Bio:
The John Byrne Band is led by former Patrick's Head front man and Dublin native John Byrne. In 2010, Byrne released the album After the Wake with producers Andrew Keenan and Devin Greenwood. John’s influences range from The Chieftains to Planxty to Bob Dylan and he has been featured on WXPN, NBC 10, Spike TV, and local college radio. The John Byrne Band offers Celtic American music at its best. The band has performed in all variety of venues including the World Live Café right here in the Philadelphia metro area and is enthusiastic about playing at the Food Bank of South Jersey’s premier concert event Hungerstock on October 1st at Campbell’s Field.

Bio:
In the early summer of 2011 and the guys decided that their new music deserved to be heard. Now named Driven to Clarity, the duo began performing. After the very first open mic in Frederick, MD the guys were booked for several showcases at the Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore City in the Fells Point area. More and more, as Andy and Dave played throughout MD, they heard similar statements from listeners: "You guys shouldn't play covers; play your originals because we like them better." With all the positive feedback, the guys knew they were heading in the right direction.

The newly formed duo is thrilled to announce that they were asked to play during Hungerstock 2011, a great cause to fight hunger scheduled on Oct 1 2011 and a showcase in the fall for Breast Cancer at the Hard Rock Cafe in DC. Andy and Dave are eager to share their music with the world and promise not to disappoint.

Bio:
Taking secret lessons around the corner of her South Philly home with another Grammy Award Winner, Anitta Cloud, Nicole shocked even her friends with her talent. As we chatted about her beginnings, she let me in on the reason she kept her voice such a secret “I wanted to wait until I had everything perfect” she said. Inspired by Lady GaGa, and Adele, Nicole doesn’t want to be just another female Dance Music singer who fizzles out before they got started, she taking her talents all over the globe. Her first show at Top Dog a few days ago began that journey. Admittedly nervous with excitement, Nicole was happy to share what she loves doing with her family and fans. With her single, “I Like Dem Boyz” dropping this Fall, and a performance on October 1st at Campbells Field for the Hungerstock Concert, the next few months will be big for Nicole.

Bio:
D.v.S is a classic rock and metal tribute cover band that originated in South Jersey. The band has performed throughout the New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania area in all variety of venues from the Wachovia Center and Six Flags to Connie Mac’s right in Pennsauken. The band is very excited to perform at Hungerstock and benefit a great community cause.
